Inge Dekker’s unique versatility in musical skills and her ability to tell a story through music is what makes her such a compelling musician. Inge has her Diploma for French horn, plays piano, has been a passionate singer since childhood and is also an enthusiastic composer. In 2023 she finished her Bachelor of Music in Composition at Australia’s leading school for music (Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University), where she studied with award-winning composer Gerard Brophy. Constantly inspired by the story telling power of music, Inge writes music to achieve this surreal experience for the listener.
Inge received a Special Mention Award for her wind orchestra piece, Sounds of a Rising Sun, in the Australian Women's Wind Band competition. She has had her original pieces premiered by Brisbane-based ensembles, including her symphony orchestra piece Meadows, performed by Queensland Youth Orchestra in 2024, Sounds of Sunmer performed by Birralee Voices (2024), Sounds of a Rising Sun performed by the Queensland Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, Skies performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (2019) and Lazarus performed by Queensland University Musical Society choir (2024). Inge has experience playing with the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, where she performed with famous Australian hip-hop artist Genesis Owusu in 2023. She has started her private French horn and piano teaching business. These versatile musicality have strengthened her skills as a composer, as she has adapted skills to write for many ensembles.
This is only the beginning of her choral and orchestral premiers, as she strives to write more programmatic works and have them performed by The Birralee Voices, Brisbane Symphony orchestra and The Australian Voices in the coming years.
